What is Coronavirus?

Many of our kids have been hearing about COVID-19 for weeks at school, from friends, on the news, and at home.  Many students do not know how to appropriately express their feelings about the situation and may be holding on to some strong worries.  Here are some tips explaining how to talk to your kids about Coronavirus and how to help them manage the big worries they might be experiencing.

What can I do?

Discussing what the virus is and how it affects us will alleviate the worries your child may be facing.  Here are a few tips!

  1. Create a safe place where your child can express their feelings.  Check in often!

  2. Practice self-regulation techniques, such as breathing, with your child.  Try Figure-8 breathing shown on the left!

  3. Shift the focus away from the worries and integrate some fun into your routine.  Try a board game, paint or write!

How to Support our Children

Your child's routine and sense of consistency has been shaken-up throughout the past few weeks.  Look to the left for a few tips on how to combat your child's worries and support them during this unprecedented time.
