Cascade's School Counseling Program Welcomes You!
Hi there! My name is Katy Michel. I am the School Counselor at Cascade Elementary. I am here to advocate and teach ALL students essential academic, career and personal/social skills they can utilize in and out of the classroom. I work with students in a larger classroom setting, a small group setting and on an individual basis. I am excited to work along side you and your family as we make your child's school year a rewarding and impactful experience.
I have the opportunity to provide intervention within the classroom setting. I teach 12, 30 minute lessons to all classrooms. I utilize the Second-Step curriculum to guide my instruction. Topics such as school readiness skills, understanding your own and other's feelings, empathy, problem-solving, anti-bullying and more is taught to all students.
I also offer small-group counseling sessions. Small-groups are offered to students who may benefit from additional academic, social or emotional skills. Students are grouped with 3-7 other peers who also need additional supports. Students are taught needed skills such as managing and understanding their emotions, self-regulation, creating positive friendships, understanding divorce, building positive self-esteem and more. Students are able to universalize the concepts and work collaboratively. A supportive and encouraging culture is created where students can be successful.
Short-term counseling is also provided through Cascade's school counseling program. I support individual students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change or other situations impeding upon student success. I do not provide therapy or long-term counseling. However, I am prepared to recognize and respond to student mental health needs and assist students and families seeking outside resources. Feel free to contact me with any questions regarding small-group or individual counseling.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns! I am here to help!
